Been bitten by the Jane Austen bug

It’s never wrong to have tea and to read Jane Austen, it doesn't matter where you are or what time of the day it is. Tea is always a good idea and so is Jane Austen. Or maybe that just me, I can’t think of a time when I would say no to a cup of tea, you might say no to reading because you’re tired but you get the point.
I was listening to this podcast and they were talking about “Pride and Prejudice” and it was a guy that said he read it in pool halls in Nashville smoking cigars and drinking scotch. That would be fun to see, I can picture that, sounds like a scene in a movie. If I saw someone reading in a smoky pool hall and drinking I would not think he was reading Jane Austen.
They were also saying that “Pride and Prejudice” was having some problems getting translated back in the day and just like Sarah said much of the charm is in the language and it should be read in English if you can.
Cultural difference also got in the way. The Italians didn't get “Pride and Prejudice” or Mr. Darcy, “My feelings will not be repressed.” Apparently the Italian didn't understand why he would repress his feelings in the first place.
I have two library books that I should read but I want to read Austen so maybe I will read three books at the same time, what could possibly go wrong?

Cold... + Jane Austen

A long and cold winter... right now it's about -18C which is according to my little converter somewhere around -0,4F. Not funny! I will get my flannel pyjamas on and my angora sock and go to bed, just after I finish listening to The History of England by Jane Austen online.

Mansfield Park X 2

Managed to read the book and see the movie (2009). No matter which of the two you pick first the second will be a surprise because they’ve changed a lot from the book. If I had seen the movie first I would have expected the book to be better… not that the movie was good. They have changed big things like a no to yes, I hope I don’t give too much away here… The leading lady, Fanny Price is two different people. The movie is actually based not only on the book but also on Jane Austens letters which give Fanny a lot more spunk than she has in the book.

If you can only pick one way to experience Mansfield Park I would pick the movie simply because it’s faster to watch it than to read it.

On to Emma soon in my little Jane Austen experience and I loved that Sarah gave away a copy of “Pride and Prejudice” so I said I would steal that idea and I did. I have a spanking new copy of Emma (but I think someone sat on the package though…). All you need to do is to leave a comment and by the end of the month (or when there is more than one comment, which is more likely the case) I will pick a name and see who wins.

UPDATE: Due to Sarahs nice little promo the last day to sign up will be February 28 and Mars 1 I will pick a winner. And I hope it inspires more people to give away books.

Finished “Pride and Prejudice” last night and it was so… dreamy! I want a white muslin gown and take a walk in the garden with a perfect gentleman and later have tea in front of a fire and discuss the day with my beloved sister (too bad I don't have one). Analyzing people’s character &c, while embroidering a cushion.

My favorite character was probably Mr Bennet, seems like such a sweetheart and I love his humor. But Mr Bingley was adorable too, such a puppy.

I’ll read more Austen real soon and I’ll read them in chronological order so next in line is Mansfield Park. And I’ll finish with “Sense and Sensibility” since that was the first book I read but in Swedish and hated every minute of it so I hope it will be better this time.

Read “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen way back and hated it, Sarah said that perhaps it was the translation and that I shouldn’t give up on Austen and I didn’t. “Pride and Prejudice” is still not in at my library and I’m reading it online instead, horrible to sit in front of the computer and read, I want to get comfortable and wrap a blanket around me but I can’t but it’s worth it!

Also reading “Jane Austen for dummies” and it’s fun to see how things worked back in the day. Oh and there was something that Jane said in one of her letters to her sister Cassandra about the art of writing letters, “(an expression) on paper exactly what one would say to the same person by word of mouth” and I agree, that is how you should write a letter. It makes me think of getting a copy of Jane Austen's Letters.

I would love to be able to decorate letters but I suck at that. I would like to have an elegant penmanship. If you got tips on how to make letters cute and pretty let me know.
