How are the resolutions going?

An update on my New Year’s resolutions.

· Keeping up with the food diary, even though I don’t feel there’s a point with it since it’s obvious that I don’t eat healthy and it just makes me feel bad.
· Did a pedicure for January.
· Spent three whole days in heels sounding like a horse and having achy feet.
· Watched a few movies on top 250 and more to come so… (157 left to go)
· Written a synopsis for one of my movie ideas and I hate it! It’s a lame cliché movie that not even I would watch. More research is needed.

All in all, I’m doing okay, even if I haven’t done the most important (and scariest) thing. I also added two things to the list, manicures and sewing.

Still a Burton girl

Watched Dark Knight yesterday (it’s on the 250 list) and… I don’t get it, I didn’t get it with Batman Begins and I still don’t understand what is supposed to be so brilliant about these movies… Gary was good and Heath was good but I expected more after all the talk about him.

Tea giveaway

· I have Coconut tea
· I don’t know what it’s called, smells a little like bubblegum, no clue what’s in it but I didn’t really like it.

Who wants some? It’s plenty of it in case more than one person wants it.

What did you do this weekend?

Rain and ice and a hole in my boot; equals wet feet which made me sort of cranky for most parts of the weekend. All I wanted to do was to get my jammies on and reading my book while on the sofa under a blanket but that didn’t happen. Spent too much time doing nothing on the computer instead…

(One of my many books at the time)
I did manage to mail my letter; unfortunately I sent a stink bomb. In case you didn’t know it, don’t try to perfume the letter using regular perfume. Smelled like a little old lady and now it will make all the letters in the mailbox reek… (It was Stella Absolute Rose if anyone cares to know)

January 25 (so far)

Filmjölk and banana
Tea and milk
Candy
Frozen veggie pizza
Gingerbread cookies (what will I do when my cookies are gone?)

Why?

I don’t know what is wrong. In less than two years I’ve had four pairs of rain boots and they’ve all ended up with holes in them (in a short period of time). Three different brands so it might not be bad quality, it might be me but what is it? All I do is walk in them. I just don’t get it, why are they always getting holes in my shoes?

I know I’m being silly

Spent a lot of time on MAC website and after looking around I thought, Oh, if I only buy MAC products my makeup will look better. I can just follow the instructions and I will look fantastic. I need the 316 brush, I have the wrong brush and the wrong brand and that is why I look like a teenager lost at a Backstreet Boys concert whenever I wear makeup. How silly is that? I know it’s stupid but I still want it, my life will be better if I use a 222 tapered blending brush with my Mylar eye shadow. I need the Cherry lip pencil and the possum nose pink lipglass, I need it! What I need most of all is the Kanga-Rouge lipstick... Does anyone have MAC stuff, is it any good?

The Oscars…

It’s time for the Oscars again! Last year I was in second place, out of three people so not that big of a deal. This year I’ll try and see a few of the movies, I really want to see all of the movies nominated for best picture.

So far I only have one category picked, Best Supporting Actor, I think Heath Ledger will win. Haven’t seen the movie but I have the dvd so I should try and watch it before the Oscars. But the other categories I need some more thoughts on.

Play along get your ballot here, and see how many categories you managed to get right.

Pandora's Box

Oh… nice, there’s this scene in the first act that I really like. She looks so vulnerable, and she says “You’ll have to kill me to get rid of me”

The ending wasn’t my favorite but… all in all I liked it. I don’t know what it is but there’s something about the first half of the movie that is really good, I’ll try to get my hands on the play and see if it’s as good.

I also want to read Louise Brooks memoirs, “Lulu in Hollywood”, and that haircut is haunting me, see it everywhere I go and I have to cut my hair. Don’t be surprised if I get a Brookie and I’ll try not to be surprised when my hair looks like a whitefro.

Thank you Sarah!

Read “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen way back and hated it, Sarah said that perhaps it was the translation and that I shouldn’t give up on Austen and I didn’t. “Pride and Prejudice” is still not in at my library and I’m reading it online instead, horrible to sit in front of the computer and read, I want to get comfortable and wrap a blanket around me but I can’t but it’s worth it!

Also reading “Jane Austen for dummies” and it’s fun to see how things worked back in the day. Oh and there was something that Jane said in one of her letters to her sister Cassandra about the art of writing letters, “(an expression) on paper exactly what one would say to the same person by word of mouth” and I agree, that is how you should write a letter. It makes me think of getting a copy of Jane Austen's Letters.

I would love to be able to decorate letters but I suck at that. I would like to have an elegant penmanship. If you got tips on how to make letters cute and pretty let me know.

(I want to send out letters like these. Picture fround here.)

(It's pretty, but can you read it? Picture found here.)

Dita...

I would love to step into my grocery store looking like this. Maybe not now since it’s so cold but…

Lovely picture found at Pocketvenus.wordpress who is a Dita collector and post everything Dita. I might be there one day, I really feel like buying the Playboy with her on the cover, I really like that picture (and I love the corset).

Due to Sarah

YESTERDAY: I will to be more green and be a little bit more active in finding out how I can become better and look for alternatives in my lifestyle. Like now, I’ll shut the computer off and not leave it on like I always do.

GREEN POINTS
· I have a compost
· Hang dry a lot of things
· I have turned the heat off in my room because I think it will be better for my flowers, which must be a green point, right?
· I sow seeds and take cuttings instead of buying plants which are often mistreated with chemicals and shipped from faraway places.
· I do well when I shower and turn the water off when I shampoo and such instead of letting the water be on all the time.
· If there’s water left after I make tea I save it for the flowers, same thing with the tea if there’s any left. Tea is good for flowers that don’t like acid. I save coffee grinds and tealeaves too. Sometimes I just throw it on the compost but sometimes the coffee goes on the roses (it’s said to like it) or somewhere where I want to scare off slugs. Tea on the rhododendron, cover the weeds to keep them away and it keeps the plant from drying out if it's hot and dry.

Green meme

I was tagged ages ago by Sarah but… better late than never I guess :p

1. Name two motivations for being green?

Um… just for the sake of everyone living in it? Isn’t that enough?

2. Name two eco-UNfriendly items you refuse to give up?

I guess I use a few too many towels when I take a shower which causes extra laundry.

My fabric softener perhaps…

3. Are you at peace with or do you feel guilty about number two?

I feel guilty about A LOT of things, not just the fabric softener. I feel I could try harder, read labels and look for alternatives but I’s so lazy.

4. What are you willing to change but feel unable to/stuck with/unsure how to go about it?

Hm… haven’t given it that much thought to be honest.

5. Do you know your carbon footprint for your home? If so, is it larger/smaller than your national average?

No clue what mine is… I think it’s average.

6. What's eco-frustrating and/or eco-fantastic about where you live?

Eco-frustrating: Lack of information, I would like to know more about my options and how to stay green, or at least to live life a little more green but I don’t see much of that.

Eco-fantastic: Um… ?

7. Do you eat local/organic/vegetarian/forage/grow your own?

I am vegetarian but a horrible one since I don’t like vegetables and the seasons around here are short which means you have to import all the veggies and fruits and that can’t be good. I would love to be able to grow more food but the bad summers have prevented it.

8. What do you personally find the most challenging in being green?

Time, money and knowledge. You have to read up and stay up-to-date and perhaps you have to shop at different stores and actively look for things most people are too lazy to do that. And something that really annoys me is that it cost money to be a vegetarian. You get two chickens for the same price as one of those bags of Qourn and there’s more food on a chicken than in one of those bags. (And it taste a hell of a lot better too)

9. Do you have a green confession?

I could do more, we all could… Nothing special to confess though.

10. Do you have the support of family and/or friends?

Ha! My mom is horrible!! She is one of those people that will leave the tap on and when I shut it off she will turn it right back on since she thinks I’m the most anyone person in the world when I do this. Like it’s so hard to turn the water on each time you’re going to rinse the sponge or whatever… “I was young too once and wanted to save the world…” she mutters. She also leaves the light on, I’m famous in the house to turn the light off, sometimes when people are in the room.

Oh and my friends thinks I’m annoying too. Like the time in Greece and I said that we shouldn’t buy the seashells and sponges since that is plundering the ocean. They all laughed and wanted to do it just out of spite, lucky they got smashed and forgot all about it :p

Food diary

I totally forgot to write it down and I’m trying to do it a few days after and I know I forgot a few things here and there but… You don’t have to be a genius to see that this isn’t all that healthy. I want to start eat meat again but I feel so bad about that. The thought of eating animals is just ew! But I’m such a horrible vegetarian.

Yesterday I missed two movies on the top 250 list, got pretty angry but today I made it to “It’s a wonderful life”, corny but cute. I’ve always wondered what movie it is in “Home alone” that they are all watching in France and now I know.
